EuroWindoor continues its active contribution to the Technical Acquis for windows and doors

Frankfurt, October 2025 – EuroWindoor maintains its strong commitment to shaping the Technical Acquis for windows and doors by actively contributing to the development of the Standardisation Request (SReq). This SReq will serve as the mandate for future harmonised product standards under the new Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

In response to the fourth draft of the SReq, EuroWindoor submitted a comprehensive list of 86 comments to the representatives of DG GROW H1. The association appreciates the constructive dialogue and the Commission’s efforts to streamline the process. However, the current draft still includes an excessive scope — listing for windows 51 technical characteristics, 19 environmental criteria and 257 substances — all of which would need to be addressed in the future Declaration of Performance and Conformity (DoPC). Many of EuroWindoor’s comments therefore focus on simplifying requirements and reducing the administrative burden for manufacturers.

Key EuroWindoor proposals include:

  • Declaring only a total value of volatile organic compounds (TVOC) instead of listing all individual substances;
  • Moving component-related data to general product information linked to dimensions, to reduce complexity and better support SMEs;
  • Allowing more time to discuss and agree on default Reference Service Life values;
  • Retaining existing test and classification standards to avoid unnecessary re-testing and re-evaluation costs.

For the first time, the European Commission has announced target adoption dates for the new harmonised product standards for windows and doors: 15 December 2028. EuroWindoor, however, calls for alignment with the parallel work on harmonised standards for Insulating Glass Units (IGUs) under CEN/TC 129, which is scheduled for adoption on 15 December 2030. As glass is an essential component of windows, a two-year gap would create uncertainty for both manufacturers and authorities. Aligning these timelines would ensure consistency and market stability.

EuroWindoor remains committed to engaging constructively in the standardisation process and to providing expert input that ensures practical, balanced and industry-relevant solutions for the European window and door sector.
