EuroWindoor calls for Climate-differentiated Criteria of transparent products in EU Taxonomy

Frankfurt, April 2026 – EuroWindoor submitted feedback to the draft delegated Regulation on the EU Taxonomy Climate Delegated Act calling for revised assessment criteria for windows and curtain walls.

The submission addresses the new pan-European maximum U-value of 1.2 W/m²K, which does not factor in geographical and climatic differences. EuroWindoor argues that this approach promotes material-intensive windows throughout the EU without securing environmental payback, while leaving solar energy gains unaccounted for.

EuroWindoor proposes that the EU Taxonomy criteria should incorporate the ‘Energy Balance’ approach, replacing the uniform U-value with values for heating and cooling energy demand according to different climatic conditions. The scientific basis for this approach is provided by the DG ENER LOT 32 study, commissioned by the European Commission.
